Happy Birthday To Me...

Happy Birthday to me! I'm now officially 23!
So this post is just me indulging in a little shameless narcisisim..okay maybe more than a little, but hey it's my birthday so isn't that like a universal excuse to get you out of anything? Today is actually going to be a quiet day because I have work and then right after that I have to watch my one year old niece because my brother has to work and my sister has nursing school. So while I do not relish the fact that I have to work today, I am however happy that the present I bought myself is here!
OMG I HAZ PREZENT!!!
So since the rest of my family/friends always give me money so I can buy myself whatever I want I decided to order something for myself that would be shipped so I could open it and it would feel like a wrapped gift. Yes, I am aware of just how pathetic that is... Moving right along then.... I know what your thinking I ordered, but no it wasn't anything from Candles By Victoria. (Though I am currently burning some of her scent shots.) It was however something from my other favorite independant company and that is Fortune Cookie Soaps. I did a mini-haul and review for you guys on my last order from them which was on a few of their summer line, but now I can do one for you on some from their fall line.
I'm guessing by now you are at least a little bit curious about the contents inside my pretty cardboard box and so I will give you all a small preview before I do my official haul/review on these products themselves.
Look forward to the complete haul soon!

Ice cream cake bitches!
I already celebrated my birthday last Sunday since today is going to be such a busy day. My mother made my favorite dinner and we had a family birthday party since I'm not much on going out and partying. (Don't like alcohol) I was suprised when they pulled out an ice cream cake from Dairy Qeen. I haven't had an ice cream cake for my birthday since I was 20. So I totally dug into it. Goodbye diet, it was nice knowing you...
Since I have recently come into a bit more cash I will most likely be spending it very soon. And I'm sure whatever I buy I will probably have to gush about and post on here. So who knows maybe it will be more CBV, maybe more FCS, or maybe some make-up. I have been eyeing Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics's new fall lip tar in Black Dahlia, which I'm sure some of you ladies have been eyeing too. Problem is Sephora is already sold out so now I have to wait for it to restock and then pray I get my order in before it sells out again. Oh, the hardships of online shopping. LOL. Well if you made it all the way to the end of this pointless post then GOD BLESS YOU! Now I'm off to start work. Bleh! See you guys next time!

Oh So Crafty...

Hello everyone! Today I thought I'd do something different than my usual haul/reviews and instead show you all where I now store all my scent shots from Candles By Victoria and also how I went about decorating it. So I just bought this cheap plastic Sterilite drawer at Wall-mart. As you can see it's nothing special or fancy, just one drawer because so far my collection fits in just this one. I only got the one drawer version because I slide it underneath my bed so nobody steals my precious   for safe keeping...
What it looked like when I bought it.
So this was entirely too boring and plain jane for me. And since most of my posts are about CBV and since I go almost everyday burning one of my scent shots I thought they deserved a prettier place to be stored...okay truthfully I was just bored and wanted something to do, but that's not the point... Anyways the process is pretty simple and cheap to do. BTW I bought all of my items from Hobby Lobby, but I'm sure you can find these items in any craft store. So here is what you are going to need: Scrapbook/any decorative paper, a pen/pencil, a jar of Modge Podge, an X-acto knife, a ruler/tape measurer, a small sponge paint applicator/small paintbrush, and some old newspaper.
Some of the tools I used.
Now the first thing you will want to do is to make sure that the surface of your container is clean and doesn't have any dust or unwanted gunk on the surfaces. Next what you will want to do is find a big enough space to where you can work comfortably and put down some old newspapers. The newspapers are to keep your floors safe from any dripping Modge Podge. After you've done this you will want to get out the paper that you wish to cover your container in. I suggest using thicker sheafs of paper, because you don't want the glue underneath to show through your papers or make any dark wet spots. After choosing your papers decide where and exactly how you want them to go. Then you will need to take your ruler or measuring tape and measure out the dimensions of the places where you want to place your paper. Then you will want to mark the places you need to trim the paper to fit with a pen or pencil on the backside of your papers. After you have marked the places you need to cut then take your X-acto knife and slowly cut along your markings. Small tip: Use a ruler to create a straight edge while you cut with your X-acto knife. Do this until all of your papers are cut into the desired dimensions.
All of my cut out pieces.
Now you will want to turn your papers over to the blank side and take out your modge podge. I suggest having a damp rag on hand just in case because it can get a little messy and you might need to wash off any glue that gets on any unwanted parts of the container. Then you will need to get out your sponge tip applicator or paintbrush. I used a sponge tip because it soaked up some of the excess glue.
The brush I used.
Then you will want to gently dip the brush you are using into the modge podge, you don't need a whole lot at first. Then you will "paint" the modge podge onto the blank sides of your cut out papers. I suggest only doing one at a time because it makes them easier to stick on as you go. Make sure you don't use a whole lot of modge podge because you want a thin coat so it doesn't bubble or squeeze out the edges of your papers when you lay them onto your container. Next you will want to paint another thin layer of modge podge onto the surface of your container where you are planning to place the paper. After that you will gently place the paper onto the conatainer. Be sure to be easy and careful with this part because you don't want your paper to be lopsided. Make sure you smooth out all the wrinkles as best as you can. The thinner the paper you used the more likely it is to wrinkle that's why I reccomended the thicker paper. Once you have pasted on all of your papers to your satisfaction take your damp rag and wipe off any excess modge podge that may have dripped onto any other places of your container. Next you let it dry overnight. Then Viola! Your plastic container has a new make-over!

The full view.

The very front, you probably can't see the glitter.

And the backside...
As you can see I decorated the top, the front, and the back. I left the sides bare because I still wanted to be able to see what was in the sides just in case in the future I had to buy and decorate another one of these and put mustard jars, tureens, or anything else in general inside of those. Now you can obviously get really creative with these and add rhinestones, name labels, stickers, ect... The possibilities are endless and all up to you. I kept mine pretty simple since it is just going to be stashed underneath my bed and I got lazy. Anyways that completes this little D.I.Y. post and I hope some of you guys found it to be helpful. I've got alot more posts already in the works so check back regularly for those if you are interested! Until next time guys!

Makeover Completed!

Fortune Cookie Soaps Haul & Review

You mean a post not about Candles By Victoria?!!
Yes, you read right my friends an actual post about something other than my love for Candles By Victoria! Instead I'm going to obsess over another one of my favorite companies Fortune Cookie Soaps. For those of you not familiar with the brand let me tell you a little bit about them. FCS is a company that sells homemade bath and body products. They pride themselves on making their products with raw materials that don't have any harmful components in them like parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, synthetic preservatives, ect... They also do NOT test on animals! They get their name because their main product is a small handmade soap in the shape of a fortune cookie. They even have hilarious fortunes on the inside. You can even have it packaged in a cute little take out box that come in different colors for just $0.75! (Note the picture below) FCS has many other products under their belt such as shampoo & conditioner bars, milk baths, bath melts, clay masks, air freshener, hand sanitizers, and even lip balms. The list goes on, but I digress. FCS also has unique fragrances like Blueberry Flapjacks, Butterpopcorn, Hot Apple Cider, and more. Another trademark of the brand is their clever names and descriptions for some of their products. (Unicorn Farts, Banana Hammock, Hubba Hubba, Boy Toy, That's What She Said, OMGWTFudge-Banana!...to name a few)

Some of Fortune Cookie Soaps Products.
I have been ordering from FCS for about a year now and am always amazed with their products. Not only are they really high quality, but they are pretty decently priced too. Plus, the shipping is always super fast! My all time favorite product of theirs is their Whipped Cream Body Butters. What they are is basically body lotion, but the formula is so light and creamy it feels like Cool-Whip. I love these because I have really dry and sensitive skin and these little miracle workers soak into my skin instantly without any sticky tacky greasy stuff left on the surface of my skin. And because they don't have any harsh chemicals in them they don't irritate my skin at all. The first body butter I ever purchased was Pretty In Plumeria which was a nice soft floral. Now as I've said I don't care for florals all that much, but this one was soft and smelt similair to Bath & Body Works's Plumeria. I loved it so much that when I ran out of that one I then ordered one in Macintosh Apple that smelt EXACTLY like a just cut fresh macintosh apple. There wasn't any artificial apple smell to it at all. Well I have almost used it all up. I can maybe use it two more times and that's about it. So saddened I looked back on the website to try and pick a new one. Now the thing about FCS is that only a few of their scents are always for sale, however most of them are limited edition for that season. So my Pretty in Plumeria was a spring scent and the Macintosh Apple was from last fall. Meaning that now I had to choose a brand new scent to try because those ones were no more.

So I was looking on the site which at the time was full of all their summer scents. There were quite a few that sounded good, but there wasn't one that really jumped out and said "PICK ME! PICK ME!" like the other times I had ordered. I debated on which one to get for like a week before I remembered that FCS has a small sample back you can buy and pick 4 scents of your choice that way you can test them in travel size before deciding which ones you want in a whole jar. So I finally narrowed it down to just 4 scents and I also decided to purchase one of their new lip balms as well.  Plus every order comes with a random free sample of one of their other products. Below is my review.

My small FCS order.

Cupcake:
Color: Pastel Yellow
This is one of FCS's permanent fragrances and it is also one of the customer's favorites. For a year now I've been eyeing this one, but I've always decided not to get it for fear that it would smell too sugary sweet. While I am a fan of sweet scents my nose has a very fine line to where certain scents just become sickeningly sweet and kind of make me wanna gag. Needless to say I was a little weary about this one, but I can happily say that although it is sweet it doesn't smell like a pre-teen girl's cheap body lotion. (Come on you know you had one of those Wall-Mart $2.00 lotions, admit it!) This one smells like light fluffly vanilla cake batter with vanilla icing. I almost want to say there is a hint of almond, but it is really really faint. I really like that this scent is really soft and subtle on the skin and that you have to be pretty close to smell it. I don't really like body lotions that everyone can smell from two blocks away. I'm kind of protective of my personal space and so I don't really like people I don't know being able to pick me out of a crowd because they know my signature scent. I only want people I'm close to, to know how yummy I smell. Yeah, I'm weird like that...
Moving on then...

Pinky Swear:
Color: Pastel Pink
I chose this one because of the adorable description. It said that this one was created to be reminiscent of childhood crushes, best friends, dress-up, and of course pinky swears the most binding of oaths! I was kind of sold after that.  I have to say that they did a fantastic job of bringing me back to when I was a little girl. This one is really girlie and feminine. It smells like candied banana runts and strawberry laffy taffy. This one is such a light and fun candy fragrance. It makes me giddy just putting it on!

What the sample body butter looks like.

Summer Sweet Tea:
Color: Light Mint Green
I have to say I bought this one because the description intrigued me. This one is supposed to be a blend of green tea and pink lemonade. Being the curious person I am I sat and wondered what the combination would be. I am an avid drinker of green tea and really don't think there is that much of an aroma to it and we all know what pink lemonade smells like. So I just couldn't imagine what the end product would be to such a mixture. Now that I have it I can tell you all. This actually has a really fresh clean quality to it. It is almost spa like I feel. It isn't really a sweet smell like I had originally figured it would be. There is a calming herbal top note paired with a crisp clean hint of lemons for a base note. I'm suprised to find that I think I like this one the best of the bunch. Normally I love sweet, fruity, food based fragrances, but this one is just so refreshing and rejuvinating that I feel like whenever I'm sick of my usual go to sweetness smells this one will definitley be the one I reach for.

Strawberry Blondes Have More Fun:
Color: Pastel Pink
Now I'm not for sure, but I believe this is also going to be one of their permanent products. I'm guessing that since this one has stayed on the site for quite a long time now while the other limited edition ones have been taken down. Anyways the description says this is supposed to smell like fresh cut strawberries and while it is most assuredly a strawberry scent it is not a fresh crisp strawberry. The first thing that came to my mind when I sniffed this was Strawberry Laffy Taffy. That's EXACTLY what this smells like! A light and sweet artificial candied strawberry. I like this one, but I think I prefer Pinky Swear soley because it has the added banana that gives it a really nice girlie touch.

Green Applemint Lip Balm: Note the shape!
Green Applemint Lip Balm:
Color: The outside packaging is a lime green and apple green striped print. The actual balm is white and goes on clear like most average chapsticks.
Shape: One thing to note about FCS lip balm is that the shape is oval and not the standard circular shape. It is shaped this way to make application easier. Personally I think most lip balm/chapstick is easy on application so I didn't really see that it made that big a difference. Still it glided on easily and I have no complaints about it.
Lip balms are a fairly new product of Fortune Cookie Soap and as an admitted lip balm/chapstick hoarder I am always on the look out for a new favorite. I have tubes of all different shapes and brands strewn about all over the place, on my night stand, in my purse, on my computer desk, in my make-up drawer in the bathroom, ect... However I have yet to find a brand that works better than Burts Bees. With that being my HG chapstick I am always comparing any other lip product to that. And I have to say while the Burts Bees continues to be my all time fave this one comes in a close second! I was super impressed. Like Burts, this one is also made with natural ingrediants and of course bees wax (The allergic beeware!) so the silky smooth formulas feel the same on the lips. It glides on like BUTTAH! As the name suggests the one I have smells like a granny smith apple with a hint of sweet mint. If you've ever had the green apple Mentos it smells just like that! The balm has a slight tingle to it because of the mint, but it's nowhere as strong as the tingly sensations you get with Burts Bees. You can feel it sink into your lips, moisturizing them, instead of with some others where it just feels like you put jelly on your lips. There are only three downsides to this product. First is that the smell doesn't last very long after you apply it (The product still stays for a long while though). Second is that while it is still a great repairing lip balm I feel that Burts Bees is better. It is a bit more powerful than this one. And the last may not be a downside to some of you, but to me it is and that is that it has no taste. Not even a little bit of mint. Once again at least my beloveded Burts Bees has a slightly pepperminty taste to it. In the end I do still love this product and am even thinking about buying one in Cupcake next time.

My free sample of a Pool Party Hydrate Me! Bar.
Pool Party Hydrate Me! Sample:
Color: Light Aqua Blue
Got this little baby as a free sample with my order. Their Hydrate Me! Bars are another of their fairly newer additions so I had not tried one of these before. This is a body conditioning bar that is supposed to be used near the very end of your shower and like it's name it is supposed to hydrate your skin and make it feel silky smooth with natural oils and vitamins. The sample that I recieved is in the fragrance Pool Party and I have to say that the description on the website was a little bit less than vague! It basically said that this scent was what they thought celebrity pool parties would smell like, but they don't tell you any particular fragrance that is supposed to be in it. Honestly now that I have it I can see why. This is such a complex scent to describe that when I first got it I thought it smelt great, but I couldn't figure out what it smelt like exactly. Puzzled, I went around the house and asked my mother what she thought it smelt like and she couldn't come up with anything either. Finally my dad came to the rescue and said that he thought it smelt like the blue powder form of Gatorade and funny thing...he was right! It smells somewhat fruity, but it's not a fruit I can pick out. I want to say it is something citrusy and the only thing that came to mind was grapefruit, but it doesn't smell exactly like that. This has a fresh, crisp, sweet yet tart smell to it. Gah! It's so complicated!! The name matches it pretty well since I do think this matches pool weather and all that, but don't be alarmed it doesn't smell like cholorine or pool toys!
As for the bar itself it has these really cute turqouise microglitter flecks in it. I'm not really a huge fan of glitter unless it is in eyeshadows, but this one wasn't so bad. It's kind of subtle on the skin and it doesn't look like you just got back from raving with Tinkerbell. This sort of feels alot like wax when you are rubbing it on in the shower. Wasn't really a fan of that since I felt like it wasn't washing off, then I realized that the product was off that's just how my skin felt. So after I dried off my skin felt pretty soft and smooth and I didn't have to put on any lotion like I normally do so it definitely did it's job. The scent I found smelt like a clean smell on my skin and was really very faint. While I probably wouldn't buy this one on my own I think it is a pretty good product and the scent wasn't too bad so I might try this in another fragrance, preferrably one that doesn't have glitter flecks in it. If you have really dry skin like I do or if you take scalding hot showers like I do then I'd reccomend this to use before you get out because it did repair my skin and make it feel silky smooth.

Overall I do like all of the products I purchased and I will definitely be using them all up. I feel I got my money's worth so I'm pretty happy. However while I liked all the body butter scents there still wasn't one that I HAD to have in the full size. So what I'm going to do is order another sampler of the fall fragrances and hope that there will be one that just steals my attention. I tend to love fall scents more than any other and they usually have a lot of apple scents for fall and I know I LOVE apple scents! So looking forward to that. When I get my next order I will review that for you guys too. And fear not my CBV addicts I will return with another scent review for you all soon. Farewell until we meet again my lovely friends!

I'm Burning Up With Your Love

Yep another CBV review today!
Hello again my fellow CBV addicts! Today I've got a total of 14 scents to review for you. Most of these are fall type scents which is kinda funny since I bought them during the summer. This is going to be one hell of a long post so I suggest you all go to the bathroom and get something to eat and drink. Anyways enough chit chat and now to get down to business then...

Again sorry about the messy shots.
Apple Cider:
Color: Dark jaded green
Cold Throw: I smell apples with an undercurrent of sweet subdued spices. It's not a fresh cut apple scent, but more like a country barrel full of apples. The spice compliments it quite well. We have a small apple orchard not far from my home and so I grew up with homebrewed apple cider and I have to say that this smells pretty darn close to the real deal.

Warm Throw: True to the scent in the container only the spices of the cider come out more strongly. The smell was noticeable, but not overwhelming in the least. It filled my bedroom and the hallway, but didn't travel to the rest of the house. I really like this scent and I know I will be burning it again soon when the leaves start changing and I have a mug of warm cider in my hands.

Pumpkin Cider:
Color: Burnt orange
Cold Throw: I pick up the pumpkin in this one more than the cider, but the blend between the two is devine. I get the sweetness from the pumkin and the spiciness of the cider all in one inhale. I actually liked this one on the cold throw better than the apple cider, which is really suprising because I don't really care for the taste or smell of pumpkins usually. So I was really impressed with this one.

Warm Throw: When it's burning you get a lot of spice in the beginning filled with the richness of the pumpkin. It kind of smells like pumpkin pie filling mixed in with some cider. The scent is comforting like it's drink counterpart. After melting this one I do think I prefer the apple cider to this one, but I'm bigger on apple smells and this is still an amazing scent.

Clove:
Color: Maple brown
Cold Throw: So a little backstory on the decision to buy this one...My mom and I were on the computer before bed, trying to decide what scents to get, when my dad comes in and looks over our shoulders and picks out Clove and then just leaves...which wouldn't normally be such a weird thing except for the fact that my dad NEVER gets interested in what he considers "girly stuff". To him a scent either smells good or bad and he doesn't really care about candles or perfume at all. (He's worn the same cologne since I was born) So my mom and I just shrugged and bought it. I had never scented plain clove before so I thought it would smell herbal, which I'm not really into. However I was pleased to find that this doesn't smell plant like at all. I am now able to pinpoint that clove is what is in most country spice fragrances. It's a pure soft spice.

Warm Throw: The after burn is the same as the cold throw. When melted it makes a nice steady background of fragrance that isn't overly noticeable. It's great if you want the room to have a simple spice smell without it being too obtrusive. In the end my dad was happy saying that it reminded him of his childhood and my mom and I actually ended up liking it alot too.

Harvest:
Color: Burnt orange
Cold Throw: I have never smelt the original Y**k** Candle version of this scent so I cannot say if it's an exact dupe for it or not. But what I do smell is some country spicy notes mixed in with a crisp dried leaves smell. It's hard to put my foot (or nose rather) on the exact spices, I just know that it isn't a strong cinnamon or clove scent. (Though I do think there is a sprinkle of those two in there somewhere) After I cut into it there is a certain baking element that came out. I smell just a hint of pumpkin in there underneath all the other scents, but it's overshadowed by the rest.

Warm Throw: Smells like it does in the container only the baking element comes more into play and so does the sweet pumpkin. Overall it matches it's name and is a very fall in the countryside type fragrance. I'm saving the rest to burn around Thanksgiving. I quite like this one, but my mother absolutely adores this and it is currently her favorite CBV scent.

Spiced Vanilla:
Color: A dusty dark white
Cold Throw: I smell the spice first with a hint of vanilla. If I had to pick apart the spice element I'd say it was made of clove, and cinnamon. The steadiness of the vanilla sort of takes a backseat to the strongness of the spice, but you can still tell it is there. Not really much more I can think of to say. That pretty much summed it up.

Warm Throw: Although you get the spice notes more the vanilla does provide a great basenote and the two go together pretty well. I'd say the spice is the husband and the vanilla the wife of this relationship since the spice seems to stand out more while the vanilla stays strong and steady in the background. Yep, that's the vision I had in my head  LOL!

Peanut Butter Cookies:
Color: Brown with a burnt orange tint
Cold Throw: I actually didn't really pick up the peanut butter in this one until I cut into it. I can smell a buttery baking undertone instead of just straight peanut butter. However after I did cut into it the peanut butter came out more and the baking quality made it smell pretty accurate to it's namesake.

Warm Throw: Accurate name is accurate. LOL! Smells just like warm peanut butter cookies baking in the oven. This one was really rich and buttery smelling. It really does live up to it's name. Not really much more I can say about it other than I do like that this one smells decidedly different than Reese's Peanut Butter even though they are both heavy peanut butter scents.

Reese's Peanut Butter:
Color: Brown with a burnt orange tint
Cold Throw: I smell the peanut butter more than the chocolate, but they still blend pretty well together. The chocolate isn't a really strong chocolate, but closer to an artificial chocolate smell. Still mixed in with the peanut butter it does indeed smell close to a real Reese's Peanut Butter cup just a teensy bit weaker on the chocolate part.

Warm Throw: Smelt like a Reese's to me just like the cold throw only a bit stronger with more depth to it. It has the richness of the peanut butter that accentuates the subtle chocolate notes. I liked this one even though I'm not a huge peanut butter fan in real life. Gotta be honest I was a bit tempted to go to the gas station and get a Reese's, but I did well and stuck to my health kick. Next time I crave the candy I will just pop in the rest of my scent shot and maybe eat some peanut butter with a dash of cocoa powder on it.

Bite Me:
Color: Maroon or mahogonay
Cold Throw:  The first thing that came to my mind when I got this was Cherry 7-Up or like Shirley Temples. (The drink not the tiny actress!) I smell something that reminds me of carbonation or like fizzy bubbles. The cherry smell is that of an artificial syrup almost like Grenadine. I'm so amazed by this because it seems to smell the same and yet slightly different each time I sniff it. I don't even know how Victoria makes scents like this, but I love it!

Warm Throw:  It still smelt like a Shirley Temple, but it had more of a fruit punch base note quality to it at first. Later when the wax had fully melted and burnt awhile I picked up on the tinyest hint of a leafy undercurrent. I have no idea what the plant was, but I liked it and it evened out the Haiwaiin Punch quality it had. The fragrance traveled from my room to the living room, but it wasn't super powerful to breathe in. It was a actually a really refreshing and entirely unique fragrance to have. This one I have to say was probably my favorite of the entire order.

Sweet Snow:
Color: Pure milky white
Cold Throw: It smells of soft peppermint. Like clear your nose, old fashioned stick candy peppermint. The background of vanilla keeps it from smelling too much like strong peppermint gum, making it just the perfect mixture of sweetness and sharpness. This one smells so good and soothing.

Warm Throw: This one was true to the cold throw. It was another "softer" burning scent that seemed to unobtrusively fill the room. The peppermint was light enough that it didn't attack my nose, no doubt subdued enough by the vanilla to where it didn't feel like I was burning Vick's Vapor Rub. It did however slightly clear up my stuffy nose. (Damn allergies!) This would probably be a good one to burn if you weren't feeling very well too. I really am falling in love with this scent. It's nothing to complex or unique, but the simple steady sweetness of it seems to fit perfectly for any day for me. I really like to drift off to sleep after burning this one. There is just something so soothing and comforting about it. I know I'm going to be buying a large candle of this one soon.
Totally fangirling over Bite Me & Sweet Snow!

Vanilla Bean Noel:
Color: A creamy milky white
Cold Throw: First off I would like to say that I have never tried or smelt the original Bath & Body Works version of this scent so I cannot compare it to that at all. With that being said, what I do smell is vanilla with a mixture of an almost sugary caramel undertone, and something else really thick and sweet which I am guessing is supposed to be the cream, with a perfumey basenote. I was kind of expecting this to smell more like a bakery scent after reading it's description, but I should have remembered that this was filed under the perfume section and for good reason. It has a heavy perfume quality to it.

Warm Throw: The perfume aroma only got stronger when I burnt it. It was so strong that I actually had to turn my burner off after a short while because it was beginning to give me a headache. The scent on this one is super strong and is probably one of the strongest I've tried out of all the scent shots I've had. Trying to salvage the situation, I put in a fourth of spiced vanilla and the VBN was still so strong that I couldn't even smell any of the spices past the perfume. I know that this one is a favorite on the boards, but sadly this just isn't my cup of wax and I ended up giving it to my aunt. I heard that it makes a great mixure for create a scents though so who knows maybe someday in the future I will buy another SS of this and just use it for that.

Home Sweet Home:
Color: Maroon/ dark fuchsia
Cold Throw: It's hard to describe this scent, especially since the website's only description of this is a potpourri of country spices. I pick up on the spices, but they aren't sharp or clear enough to be cinnamon, clove, or even nutmeg. They are of a much more subdued sweeter variety. I don't really know what they are honestly. It is definitely a country spice type fragrance though. And as vague and short as the original description is I have to say it's pretty dead on.

Warm Throw: This one has a very deep sickeningly sweetness to it when burned. I stick to what I said before that the short description really is the best description for it. It's just a really sweet country spiced potpourri. Me no likey this one all that much so probably wont be getting it again. It was just too sweet and cloying for my tastes.

Honey Vanilla Love Dust:
Color: Goldenrod yellow
Cold Throw: First thing to know is that this one is STRONG! I don't even have to open the container to smell it. The top note to this is definitely cocoa powder. It's not so much chocolatey as just straight powder from the can that you bake with. There is a basenote of a different kind of baking sweetness underneath it, but I couldn't have been able to tell you distinctly that it was honey or vanilla if I didn't know that those were the ingrediants supposed to be in there. I just kind of smelt sweet, rich cocoa powder, emphasis on the powder.

Warm Throw: Honestly it burns the same as the cold throw. The only difference I noticed was that it had an almost, dare I say...butter(?) like undercurrent to it. Truthfully, this was another one I didn't really care for though I did like it better than VBN and HSH. It was just a bit too sweet for my nose and there was something about this one that rubbed me wrong. It's not a gross scent mind you, but I think I just didn't care for the powdery notes of it.
My feelings on VBN, Home Sweet Home, & HVLD.

Coconut:
Color: Milky dusky white
Cold Throw: Smells like sweet shredded baking coconut like the kind you buy in packages at the grocery store. On the cold throw alone the aroma is kind of weak compared to some of Victoria's others, but after cutting it into fourths it was really strong.

Warm Throw: I stand by what I said earlier, smells like shredded baking coconut not like the type that smells like suntan lotion. The fragrance is steady and it doesn't spread to the rest of the house. Think I will be using this as a mixer for some of my own create a scent concoctions.

Tahitian Passion:
Color: Deep purple
Cold Throw: This was my free scent shot with this order and the scent is really complex. I smell some kind of citrus and exotic type fruit with a heavy basenote of musk. It's definitely tropical, but I don't smell any coconut or pineapple that are usually associated with tropical scents. This one kind of reminds me of a tropical designer perfume or a really expensinve tanning oil.

Warm Throw: The fruity tones come out more and tone down the heady musky smell to where it doesn't smell so much like tanning oil anymore. I'm really stumped on what the exact fruits in this are because it's not like anything I can readily identify such as coconut, pineapple, kiwi, or any melons I can think of. So frustrating! Then again I live in the Midwest nowhere near anything tropical at all so my fruit index is a little limited. Though I due suspect that there may be some oranges and mangos in there, but don't qoute me on it!

IT WAS THE UPS TRUCK!!

So I just got my September 1st order in the mail and I'm so excited! I'm going to be photographing the scent shots BEFORE I cut them up so they may actually look presentable for the next review. So it may be awhile before I get that review up because I have to let them all cure, burn them, and write up the descriptions, but I hope you all look forward to that. Also it was my first time playing candle bingo on CBV's forum board The Pouring Pot and I won! I never win anything so talk about beginner's luck. I wond a five dollar gift voucher for my next order so you guys know I can't let that go to waste! So I will probably be ordering even more sometime soon so look forward to those as well. Congratulations you made it to the end of this post! Give yourself a pat on the back  and something good to eat you deserve it! Until next time my felllow wax addicts!

Pop Goes My Tart

I'm back with another CBV review!
We meet again all my lovelies! So like the happy Loki gif says today I'm going to review for you all my second Candles By Victoria haul. I have nine scents to review for you all plus a little review on my tart warmer. A little note: I cut my tarts into fourths and only burn 1/4 of it at a time because these little guys are really strong and 1/4 of the wax is enough to scent the room for at least 5-6 hours.  Below is a picture of the scent shots I'm reviewing. Like I mentioned before I cut into them so they aren't so perrtyfulls anymore so sorry about that. Next time I will photograph them BEFORE I cut into them and burn them. Also please excuse their blurriness I need to buy a new camera. Anyways with all that being said let's get started shall we?

Stack of scent shots for this order.

What the tops of the scent shots look like.

Honey Orange:
Color: A burnt orange
On Cold Throw: When I first smelled this in the plastic container I thought it smelt like a citrus air freshener. Not a bad one mind you, but I definitely smelt the oranges first and they smelt really crisp and I don't mean in the fresh squeezed orange juice kind of way, but rather in a sort of clean almost aerosal way.

After Burning: When I burned 1/4 of this in my tart warmer it smelt sweet and I finally picked up the honey notes. There was no longer any air freshener smell to it at all. It just smelt like really sweet oranges. I feel like this one is great for summer days when I want a little pick me up and it's too hot for some of the other heavier fragrances I have.  I actually mixed a fourth of this with a fourth of Bath Time With Pooh and it made my room smell just like orange Starburst candies. It was a nice suprise find.

Bath Time With Pooh:
Color: Golden yellow (Just Like Winnie the Pooh!)
On Cold Throw: In the container the first thing I picked up on is baby shampoo. That really was the main smell, but you get a tiny whiff of the honey, though if you didn't know there is supposed to be honey in it you'd probably just smell an undertone of something sweet. I didn't notice any of the toffee bits that are said to be in it though. I can't compare it to it's intended counterpart (Hint: comes from a store that rhymes with hush) since I have never owned or smelt any of their products, but I've heard it is almost an exact dupe only Victoria's scents are always stronger.

After Burning: It burns true to the cold throw. It's sweet baby shampoo. This one is actually one of Victoria's more "softer" burning scents; meaning that the aroma filled the room nicely, but the scent was subtle and didn't spread to any other parts of the house as most of her others tend to do. I feel like this fragrance has a very soothing kind of aroma and I like to burn it when I work. (I'm a personal nanny of a 6 month old baby boy)

Apple Jack N Orange Peel:
Color: Burgandy maroon
On Cold Throw: It smells strongly of apples and cinnamon at first, but if you go back and take another sniff you get a whiff of the orange zests in there. It's faint, but it compliments the spiceness of the cinnamon and the sweetness of the apples. The cinnamon isn't a straight up hard cinnamon stick, instead it's like the sweeter kind that you bake with. The description on the site says that this has lemons in it too, but I don't pick up on them, but that's probably because the citrus in it is faint compared to the apple and cinnamon notes.

After Burning: This one also burns true to the cold throw, but it's a lot stronger. This one is one of Victoria's scents that not only fill the room, but all the others in the house as well. Not that the scent punches you in the brain, but it just sort of sits nicely in the background. My older brother actually came over when I was burning this and said excitedly, "It smells fantastic in here!" He was sniffing in the air straight up hound dog style. This scent actually turned out to be a big hit with the rest of my family members as well. I will probably be buying this for my brother in candle form for Christmas.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookie:
Color: Saddle brown
On Cold Throw: Accurately named. It smells just like if you held a fresh baked oatmeal cookie up to your nose. You can even smell the raisins in it! My dad came home while I was burning this and thought I was baking...he was dissapointed when I told him it was just wax...

After Burning: Burns true to the scent in the shot. I thought at first that this would be another one of the "softer" burning scents because on the cold throw it wasn't that strong, but boy was I wrong! Like with all the others I only burned a fourth of it and within ten minutes the aroma filled my bedroom so much that I actually had to turn it off. The scent even lingered all through the rest of the day and the next morning it was still there, but by then it was less overwhelming and more homey feeling.

Cinnabon:
Color: Saddle brown
On Cold Throw: Smells EXACTLY like a fresh baked cinnamon roll. You can even smell the sweet creamy icing! It's just like walking past the store in the mall. I honestly don't know how Victoria does it! This is absolutely delicious!

After Burning: You can really pick up the icing and the cinnamon dough when it burns. Dieters beware this one is not for the weak willed! It smells so yummy that my own will power broke down midway and I actually went to the store just to pick up some cinnamon rolls to bake. So you all were warned! Also this scent tended to linger longer than all the other ones I have tried so far, even longer than the oatmeal raisin cookie. My room smelt like cinnamon rolls for three whole days and I only burnt it once!

Marshmallow Campfire:
Color: The palest shade of pink. It's just this side of being white.
On Cold Throw: When I first opened this scent shot I thought it smelt vaguely of vanilla, not a strong rich vanilla, but like a light sweet vanilla. I couldn't put my finger (or nose rather) on what it smelt like exactly, but it didn't smell like a bag of Jett Puff marshmallows and I didn't pick up on any of the intended campfire logs. The cold throw on this one was actually a lot weaker compared to most of the others that I can actually smell through their containers. However, once I cut into this one to quarter it a really strong woodsy aroma overwhelmed the sweetness and proceeded to assault my nose. I didn't like it so much after that and hesitated on burning it.

After Burning: After I cut into it I was afraid I wasn't going to like this one, but I'm happy to say that once I burned a fourth of it the sweetness returned and blended nicely with the woodsy smell. In fact I actually smelt vanilla and what I think is a slight undertone of real marshmallow. This one is probably one of the most unique fragrances out of this order other than Twilight Woods and it lives up to its name. It did fill the entire house, but the aroma wasn't obtrusive or in your face. I actually ordered Peanut Butter Cookies so that I could mix the two and make Fluffer Nutter and I'm happy to say they mixed well together and smelt like the actual sandwhich.

Twilight Woods:
Color: Deep purple/ eggplant
On Cold Throw: I actually own the original Bath & Body Works Twilight Woods in both their perfume and lotion forms so I can say that this is an EXACT dupe for that. I was not dissapointed when I got my scent shot. For those of you who aren't familiar with the B&BW product, let me try to explain what it smells like. Perfume scents are really hard to describe, but it smells like a walk in the woods where sweet fruits and flowers grow. The "earthy" element in it doesn't smell like you ran face first into an oak tree, but somehow more like the air you would breathe in standing at the edges of the woods; so you get the faintest scent of nature without the heavy dirt and tree scent that is sometimes too masculine. There is a fruity undercurrent which I believe is the apricot, though truthfully I'm not exactly sure on what apricot smells like, but it gives it that sweet enchanting element.

After Burning: If you like earthy type scents, but still want a decidedly feminine scent without it being too heavy and smelling like a lumberjack or gardener then this is the scent for you. I was worried that this one would be really overpowering since it is a perfume type fragrance, but I was pleasantly suprised to find that that wasn't the case. I didn't find this one cloying at all and it wasn't an assault to the senses either. This one was even father approved.

Spellbound:
Color: Deep purple/ eggplant
On Cold Throw: This was one I wanted just for the name and after reading its description I decided to get it. This one is really super sugary, like almost overwhelmingly sweet. When I first opened it I could smell the maple and cotton candy instantly. It's really syrupy sickeningly sweet at first and I don't smell any of the apple notes it is said to have in it. This one is also kind of strong on cold throw and isn't for the faint of nose.

After Burning: After burning a quarter of this I was happy to find that unlike it's cold throw it wasn't as sickeningly sweet as when I cut the tart. It was still really sugary sweet, but not nauseously so like it was before. Somehow this one kind of reminded me of Caro syrup and spun sugar. Although I'm still not the biggest fan of this one I would still recommend it to those of you out there who love really syrupy sweet smells.

Island Kiss:
Color: Dark raspberry
On Cold Throw: This was the free scent shot that I received with my order. First thing that came to mind with this one was tropical flowers. It's kind of hard to describe past that. All I can really say is that is smells like sweet flowers that one would find in Hawaii or some other vacation worthy place. I'm really not a big fan of floral type scents. They tend to overwhelm my senses, but I actually don't mind this one. The scent is soft and nice like an island breeze where wild flowers bloom and it isn't cloying.

After  Burning: It burns pretty much true to the cold throw. It was breezy sweet tropical flowers. As I said before I'm not big on florals, but I will say that this one smelt nice and not like I was suffocating in an old ladies perfume. Sadly though, I had to turn this one off after about 30 minutes because it filled the room and was starting to give me a headache. Still I didn't mind the smell of it so much, but I did end up giving it to my aunt in the end who enjoys soft floral fragrances.

Note the cord is in the front.

The Tart Warmer:
I also bought the black marbled tart warmer that Victoria sells on the site. It works well and I really have no complaints about it other than the fact that the cord is REALLY short and that its attached in the front of the warmer instead of the back. I've never seen one that does that before. Because of the short cord length it really kind of limits the places that I can put it, but I guess you could always use an extension cord if you needed to. The only other thing is that it is a tad on the expensive side for how small it is. (It's $15.95) Still it isn't a deal breaker since this little baby does the trick. I do like that the top half is just a simple disc shape so it makes it easier to get the left over wax out after I pop the top into the freezer for about 10 to 15 minutes. It usually just pops right out after I take it out, but if it wont you can just take a butter knife in the side and pry it out pretty easily. Below is a picture of what the leftover wax looks like after it's been frozen and popped out of the warmer.

A disc of the left over wax.

So that concludes this little review. Overall I have to say that I'm really happy with this order. Candles By Victoria just continues to suprise and fascinate me with their amazing products. I've already made a list of all the scents I want to try for my next order, but first I'm waiting until the order I placed on September 1st during their 15% off sale arrives. On Friday the UPS man stopped in front of my house and I got really excited until he walked over to my neighbors house. Alas, I will just have to wait for him another day... Anyways I hope you guys enjoyed this and look forward to my next CBV review which I am already working on for you. Until next time guys take care!

UPS man why you no stop at my house?!

I'll Stop The World & Melt With You

Words alone cannot describe my love of Candles By Victoria!
Hello again everyone! Today I'm going to be talking *cough* OBSESSING *cough* about my new found love of a family candle company by the name of Candles By Victoria. I first heard about them a couple of years ago while I was watching one of my favorite youtube beauty gurus (Leesha from xsparkage). She did a haul and review of some of the company's famous scent shots. What is a scent shot? I will get to that in a minute, but back to the story. Anyways at first my feelings were kinda "eh, no big deal" about it all because where I live there used to be this really cute country home that was converted into a candle and country knicknack store and me and my mother used to shop there all the time. They had some really nice candles and products there for cheap. It was always a treat for me growing up whenever my mom took me there and let me have a field day smelling every single scent they had and letting me pick some of my favorites to take home. My mother has always been sort of OCD and so growing up the house was always clean and she always had candles and poutporri strewn about the house. My friends always used to come over and tell me how good it smelt. Naturally I inherited her need for a good smelling home. Going to that store sort of became a ritual for my mother and me so a few years ago we were both absolutely devastated when the owners told us they were closing up shop for good.

After the first initial emotional breakdown that we both had, panic set in knowing that all our lovely candles would eventually be no more. So we took total advantage of their out of business sale and in a mad dash we loaded up on every fragrance we loved like it was the Cold War and we were preparing to live in an underground bomb shelter never to see the light of day again. Seriously we had candles pouring out of my mother's Longaberger baskets for a couple of years. It took us about three years to finally windle the collection down. Now we maybe only have about one basketfull left. So in the beginning of July we both realized we were finally ready to move on and start trying our luck with different brands. We tried a few that were so less than steller that they don't even deserve mentioning. That's when I remembered all the reviews for Candles By Victoria that I had seen popping up everywhere on all my other favorite beauty gurus's sites. So on a whim I decided to try it even though I didn't really know all that much about them.

Don't know about CBV? Let me inform you my friend...
For those of you not familiar with Candles By Victoria let me give you a little overview. CBV is a semi-small (compared to big franchise chains like Yankee) candle company set in Texas and owned and ran by Victoria and her husband the Candleman. They sell candles (in all shapes and forms) and candle accesories such as oils, reed diffusers, tart warmers, and probably their most famous product scent shots. A scent shot is a small plastic container filled to the brim with just pure wax in whatever scent you choose. It is only $2.00 for one; trust me that is cheap since these little babies pack a powerful punch! They are completely wickless and are meant to be burnt in a tart/candle warmer. These little guys are the perfect solution for the conundrum of buying candles online without being sure of their smell. Since they are so cheap and small you can just order a handful of them to test before spending any more money on a scent you aren't sure you would care for. And trust me with over 700 fragrances to choose from these are quite handy to have to help narrow down the field. Plus they also allow for you to cut them up and mix them with some of Victoria's many other scents to create your own new ones!

At the time we placed our first order we sadly did not have a tart warmer so we just decided to buy 4 packs of there votives. They come in a bag with 3 votives of one scent. And let me tell you after reading all 700+ scent descriptions it took forever to narrow it down to just 4. CBV also throws in a random free scent shot with every order. I had really high expectation for this company since it was so hyped up on the net and let me tell you when I received my order a week and a half later I ripped open that box like I was a drug addict and there was crack coated candy inside. I ran up stairs immediately and crawled into her bed waking her up like a kid on Christmas morning screaming, "It's here!!" Luckily my mother is used to such outbursts from me. So at first when we smelt them 2 smelt delicious the other 2 not so much, but we did like the free scent shot. A little dissapointed with the 2 not so good smells I looked back online to reviews of the scents that I had chosen and saw that since these are all hand poured (and shipped in the heat) they have to have time to "cure". Basically meaning they have to be left alone for awhile so the oils can set with the wax and the final scent will come out. After letting them cure they smelt devine and I have to say that was the fateful day I turned into a CBV addict.

Votives in Witch's Brew, Amish Quilt, and Leesha
I also have to say that CBV use different wicks than the usual lead wicks and I prefer CBV's because they are so much easier to trim (litterally you can just gently break it off) and that keeps your candles burning evenly without "canyoning" and turning into an uneven hot mess. Overall I love this company and have even become a member on their forum "The Pouring Pot" to share in my love with all the other CBV addicts. I've already had 3 other orders which I will review for you all after this one and I'm in the process of plotting my next order. So I hope you guys find this helpful and I hope I've converted some of you into the candle cult. So here for you all is my little review of the scents that we had chosen in case you are interested. I was sure to write down what it smelt on "cold throw" (how it smells before burning) and on the "warm throw" (how it smells after burning).

Monster Mash: Color: Dark forest green
First impressions: I’ll be honest; I just bought this because of the name at first. I love all things Halloween based and when I saw the name and found out the candle was going to be green I couldn’t resist trying it and I’m so glad I did. Blueberries are the first thing I smell, but not the crisp tart fresh kind, more like candied blueberries. Then as you smell more you can smell the “bakery” element, like sweet pie crust and creamy butter. Didn’t really pick up on the granny smith apples that are said to be in it though, but that’s okay, I’m sure they add to the sweet element.

After burning: It burns true to the cold throw. This one is going in my top favorites! The scent is very yummy and it filled the entire house not just the room that it was in. My aunt walked in to pick up my nephew and instantly said “It smells sooo good in here”. When she asked me what it was called I got a silly kick of satisfaction when I told her with a straight face, “Monster Mash.” She looked at me like I had two heads. Lol. I loved this one so much that I went back and bought the scent shot and I can see myself buying more of this in a bigger candle very soon.

Amish Quilt: Color: Is a bright burnt orange
First impressions: The scent of this one is really just cinnamon with some other underlying spices that I can’t readily identify. I'm guessing there is probably some clove and maybe a dash of nutmeg in there, but the cinnamon stands out the most.

After burning: Burns the same as the first initial smell. The scent fills the room and it is a nice country spice kind of scent. My mother picked this one out on the list and she really enjoyed it. So if you like cinnamon, but want a bit more variety in the room than just that then you should check this one out.

Witch’s Brew: Color: Dark olive green; really looks like something you’d find in a witch’s cauldron.
First impressions: Another one I bought just for the name. You can really pick up the apple cider element in this fragrance. However the accompanying fruits all blend together so well that it’s hard to just pick out one of them individually. If you smell it without knowing what fruits are in there you could tell that it has a fruity undercurrent underneath the cider, but I doubt you would be able to pinpoint exactly what the fruits are.

After burning: The scent is the same as the cold throw. It makes the room smell good without being too obtrusive. When you walk in the room it’s a nice steady scent instead of the kind where you feel like you are engulfed in a tidal wave of aroma. I liked this one a lot. It wasn’t a real stand out fragrance of the bunch, but it is truly a great and unique scent and I can see myself buying it again.

Leesha: Color: Dark red. It reminds me of the color they paint barns. (Clearly I’m from the
Midwest)
First impressions: It smells like a baked apple dipped in cinnamon and spices. That’s really all I pick up. I don’t really smell any of the caramel said to be in it on the cold throw.

After burning: After walking into the room I actually picked up the caramel smell over the apples. It was really rich and buttery smelling with just the faintest hint of some baked element like a pie crust or maybe a crisp, not really sure, but I think it’s where the "crunch" comes from. I actually couldn’t really smell any apple. If there is any I detect then it’s a really crisp fresh Macintosh type that is heavily overshadowed by the caramelized butter scent. This one was actually one of the "softer" burning scents. It filled the room nicely, but didn’t spread to any other area of the house.

Butter Brickle: Color: Golden yellow
First impressions: This actually happened to be the first scent shot I ever smelt and it was the free sample with my order. I was a little turned off at first just by the name “butter”. I was thinking it was going to smell like a tub of Country Croc. Thankfully though it smells nothing like that. It still has a buttery scent, but it’s more like a bakery scent. The best way I can describe this is if you were baking and you took a stick of butter and melted it down and added cooking vanilla, and cream. At least that’s the image I had in my head when I first smelt this one.

After burning: Burnt true to the scent in the container. This one was strong and filled the room. It smelt sort of like butterscotch candies or for those of you familiar with the alcoholic drink a Buttery Nipple, it smelt like that. I didn’t so much like the way this smelt burning by its self, but I think this would be a great scent to add to others in your tart warmers if you wanted to add a bakery element into something.

Insert Witty Self-Introduction Here...

I'm actually a blogger now....
Well hello internet! If you couldn't tell already this is my first time blogging and I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, but that's okay because complete ignorance has never stopped me from doing something before. So I'm just gonna wing it from here on in. So first things first I guess and that would be an introduction I suppose...

My name is Cayla. I'm from a small midwestern country town and I decided to start this blog so I could chronicle and obsess over my ever increasing addictions on various things which will probably vary randomly from candles, to make-up, books, my favorite shows atm, music, etc...to probably just incoherrant fangirl rants. Most likely it will all be incoherrant fangirl rants... I don't really have any spiffy plans for this blog other than just some fun to pass the time and a little bit of shameless narcissism. I do love to interact with others so any comments I get I will greatly appreciate! That includes hate comments because that means that I stole some of your precious time and enough so you felt you had to tell me about it. MWHAHA!

Seriously I take IDGAF to a whole new level.
Anyways I hope you guys enjoy some of my upcoming posts or at the very least I hope my random gif bombs amuse you. Much love and many blessings to you all!
